5 foods that burn fat…

These 5 foods have unique fat burning properties and are both beneficial for weight loss and for optimum health…

Green Tea

Green Tea is now recognized as one of the healthiest beverages. It contains antioxidants that have demonstrated positive effects on cardio vascular health. It exhibits many anti cancer qualities and has an effect on insulin sensitivity. But did you also know that drinking Green Tea can help to kick start your metabolism into burning fat?

Studies show that drinking two cups a day can help you to lose weight. Scientists believe that green tea may boost metabolism and therefore help you to burn more fat.  Some researchers think that substances in green tea known as polyphenols, and specifically the catechins, may be responsible for the positive fat burning effects of green tea.

Chili

Like Green tea, Chilies are known to help speed up the metabolism and as we all know, an increase in metabolism means more fat burning! Again, researchers are not sure as to why chili’s act to speed up metabolism but it is believed that it may be due to a substance found in them called capsaicin. This is the same substance that gives chilies their heat.

Capsaicin is fat soluble so if you are one that doesn’t like the heat you can add a little olive oil or a handful of nuts to your dish- this will help to counter the heat.

So next time you are in the kitchen add a little kick to your dish for both flavor and fat burning!

Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Extra virgin olive oil is one of the healthiest oils you can use to cook with. It exhibits a wealth of heart healthy properties and is even thought to help lower high blood pressure. Healthy oils like extra virgin olive oil are also important for maintaining healthy cells.

But how can it help you to lose weight you ask? Well, because it is a healthy source of good fats, it can help to reduce cravings you may have for fatty foods. Usually if you are craving fatty foods, your body is trying to tell you it needs some fat. Problem is, the fats that you eat may not always be the ones your body really needs. Give you body what it needs and the cravings will stop!

Fruits and Vegetables

Regardless of what you may have been told, no one has ever gotten fat from eating only fruits and vegetables.

Fruits and vegetables are packed with nutrients. Vitamins, minerals, antioxidants… you name it, if it is good for you then chances are you’ll find it in fruits and vegetables. Plus, both fruits and vegetables are good sources of fibre which helps you to feel fuller for longer.

If you are trying to lose weight, it is important that you never go hungry. Hunger can lead to binge eating which, when it happens, will usually consist of less than healthy food options.

Next time you feel hungry reach for some fruit… an apple, some berries or a delicious orange, make yourself a big salad that you can munch on when you feel like you need a snack.

 Protein

Like the fibre found in fruits and vegetables, protein can help to stave of hunger and keep you feeling fuller for longer. The catch here is to make sure that your protein sources do not contain a lot of fat. This can be the case and many people may not realize that they are eating too much fat along with their protein.

Choose low fat protein sources like soy, legumes, eggs and lean meats. Nuts are good too, although fairly high in fat, they contain good fats which can help to stave of cravings. Don’t go overboard though. Try to limit your serves of nuts to a small handful twice a day.

Good quality protein shakes area great option and can be very convenient when you are on the go but the trick is to find one that is low in sugar. Most protein powders use whey protein which comes from milk and is an excellent source of good quality protein.
